The triathlon consists of three events: swimming 750m in the lake; biking 15 miles (in a beautiful country setting); and running 5 kilometers. It is a very well attended event, with 500 to 600 participants, approximately 200 volunteers, and many spectators. The main goal of this event is to raise money for missions that are supported by Front Street UMC. Money raised by the triathlon has been used to support the following projects, among others:
So, is it just about the money?
A major goal of the triathlon is to help our Church to be a light in our community, to show, by our example, Christ’s love. As Jesus commands us in Matthew 5:16: “let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven”. This event requires support from the Church and the wider community of Burlington, and through interactions that we have with businesses, individuals and other churches, we are ambassadors for Christ.
